Background: China's One Child Policy
China's One Child Policy: In the 1950's Mao Tse Tung urged his people to have lots of children in order to strengthen his country. The population surge from this led to panic in the Government as to whether China would be able to feed their People. In 1979 the Government implemented the One Child Policy. Couples who break this law are subject to fines equaling up to three years salary, community ostracism and even jail time. Boys are more valued in China's Society because they carry on the ancestral name, care for aged parents, and receive family property due to inheritance laws. Because of this, many couples will abandon their baby girls in public places so they will be easily found. Hundreds of thousands of baby girls are abandoned every year in China!!!!!!!!
